Escorting just 190 guests each, these state-of-the-art vessels purpose built to explore the Great Lakes and Canadian Maritimes will offer all-inclusive cruises from Chicago including 10-night itineraries to/from Toronto, 12-night voyages to/from Montréal, and 14-night roundtrip journeys deep into Lake Superior.

A Chicago
Treasure Reborn

Navy Pier has always been a Chicago icon, but its journey to becoming the vibrant attraction it is today is a story of rebirth and reinvention. Originally opened in 1916 as Municipal Pier, it was designed to serve as a cargo facility, a passenger ship terminal, and a public gathering place. However, like many historic landmarks, Navy Pier’s fortunes ebbed and flowed with the tides of time.

During World War II, the pier was used as a training center for the U.S. Navy – naval aviator and President George H.W. Bush trained here aboard the USS Sable – which is how it earned its current name. In the post-war years, it became a campus for the University of Illinois at Chicago, but by the 1970s, the pier had fallen into disrepair. It wasn’t until the 1990s that a massive revitalization project breathed new life into the pier, transforming it into the top-tier entertainment destination it is today.

A Hub of Activity

Today, Navy Pier is one of Chicago’s top attractions, drawing millions of visitors each year with its engaging blend of history, culture and entertainment. Stretching over 3,300 feet into Lake Michigan, it offers stunning views of the Chicago skyline and the lake itself. But what truly makes Navy Pier special is its ability to offer something for everyone.

For families, there’s the just-opened Illuminarium (June 2024), an experiential cinematic space that takes visitors on immersive African safaris and space odysseys. Culture hounds will want to check out the Chicago Shakespeare Theater with unique performances ranging from The Bard’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to a rock-and-roll tour through the highs and lows of the legendary band, The Kinks. Thrill-seekers can take a ride on the iconic 196-foot tall Centennial Wheel, which provides breathtaking panoramic views of the city and lake. And for those looking to relax, there are countless spots to sit back, enjoy a meal, and watch the world go by, from biting into Chicago’s famous deep-dish pizza to savoring your favorite libations at Offshore Rooftop, the nation’s largest rooftop deck affording stunning views of Lake Michigan.

Throughout the year, Navy Pier hosts special events, performances and festivals – think fireworks displays and outdoor concerts – ensuring there’s always something happening here. It’s a place where Chicagoans and visitors alike come together to celebrate the city’s rich cultural tapestry.
